Nancy Amaya
Senior Litigation Law Clerk
Nancy is a senior litigation law clerk with a primary focus in class actions and complex civil litigation.
Since 2014, Nancy has cultivated her experience and knowledge in civil litigation at all levels of Court. She plays a crucial role in every aspect of the litigation process, including the preliminary stages of legal proceedings, mediation, discovery, trials, and appeals. Additionally, she undertakes funding applications and disbursement requests submitted to the Class Proceedings Fund and other litigation financers, and maintains the budget for class action files that receive funding.
Nancy is proficient in commonly used litigation and document management software. She also has experience with e-Discovery software and continually builds upon her skills to stay current with the latest advancements in electronic document review.
Nancy is a key member of the class action team, and a first point of contact for many class members, answering their inquiries, gathering information, and keeping them abreast of developments in the cases.
Prior to joining Sotos, Nancy implemented law clerk student placement programs at two leading class action law firms. She enjoys mentoring law clerk students while helping them enhance their practical skills and knowledge about litigation.
Nancy ensures the highest quality of work while safeguarding and promoting clients’ interests. She is a resource for lawyers and colleagues, sharing her knowledge in the Rules of Civil Procedure and practice directions, and her in-depth understanding of class action procedures.
Nancy holds a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO). She is also fluent in Spanish.
